How did this all come about?

How did this all come about?

I most often feel like God speaks to me through nature. By getting outside and seeing the things that only He could have created. And sometimes, this is through finding feathers. This all started when I memorized Psalm 91 last year. When I’m fearful and worried, I pray it out loud.  When I get to the part of “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust,” my worries begin to wash away. I was outside last fall, running through the yard as my four-year-old was chasing me. He was being a scary gorilla. As I was running, I saw something on the ground under our magnolia tree. It was a beautiful two-toned feather. Not like the normal feathers that I find around our home. This feather was different. Special. At first, I thought it might be an eagle’s feather, but it was too small. When we came inside, I started researching it and realized it was a mockingbird’s feather. I knew this was significant and special somehow. I had been praying all day and thinking about getting back into the blogging world and starting a t-shirt brand that shares God’s truth. Not like all the others, but one that focuses on scripture memory, because I know how much having scripture hidden in my heart helps me.

The more I thought about the mockingbird, I realized what it is that they actually do. They listen, they learn, and then they repeat it. What could God be telling me through this? That’s when the revelation came. That is exactly what God calls us to do with His word. Read His word and listen to His voice, learn what He is teaching you – truly understanding it in a way that you can teach it to others, and then sing it from the rooftops and proclaim it to the world.

Listen. Learn. Repeat.

A few days later, I was sitting in our dining room office designing our first shirt when something caught my eye outside the window. A mockingbird had flown up and was sitting, perched on the railing of my front porch, watching me and singing a song.  I was in complete awe of this beautiful creature and how God uses His creation to get our attention and speak to us.

It’s not often in a crowded and loud place or when we're surrounded by all the other distractions of the world. God usually speaks in the quiet places.

When Jesus was sending the disciples out on their own, he told them:

“What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops.” Matthew 10:27

God commissions us all to be fishers of men and to share his word.

I love how Tim Tebow presents the Great Commission and the Great Commandments:

"Make the gospel known, love God, and love people."

You may be the only Bible that some people ever read.

Will you join me in studying and learning and sharing God's word this year? Let's make it our priority to build God's kingdom, together.
